Modernizing User Assistance

By Priscilla Buckley, Knowledge Architect at SAP

Date: Wednesday, November 12th, 2014
Time: 16:00 - 16:45
Track: Presentation for Professional level, DITA
Location: C7.2 OG

Abstract: Do you remember when software documentation was frozen in headered and footered PDF books, or bewildering webs of static HTML pages – when the printed page had been migrated to digital format, but nothing else had changed? For most of us, this is still the norm. And in the meantime, our consumers seem to have moved on to another planet. Using DITA, the DITA Open Toolkit, a dash of video and a touch of JavaScript, SAP is bringing static product documentation into the amazing world of dynamic user assistance, with interactive image maps, embedded YouTube videos, tables you can filter and sort, with checkable rows: a first step toward custom BYOGs (Build Your Own Guides).

SAP 2 DITA

By Dr. Sven Leukert, VP Knowledge Management at SAP

Date: Thursday, November 13th, 2014
Time: 11:15 - 12:00
Location: C1.2.1 / Plenum EG

Abstract: DITA promises a number of advantages for technical documentation, from targeted and efficient translation modularization, reuse and versioning of content, to innovative and flexible highly customizable output. However, the introduction of DITA requires a carefully and deliberately planned project, the definition of roles and processes, setting up and developing the required infrastructure, and in particular the conversion and migration of content, especially for companies with large amounts of existing documentation. This presentation will focus on the introduction of DITA for documentation in SAP.
